Well with me having a half day at work I was hoping to get along to the DZ and get some skydiving done but alas - our usual british climate has decided to play silly beggars and just put a grey sheet above the whole of the uk. pants. So whilst I were at home I thought I'd take some of the crit I received off the lead animator at work and some of the comments on cgtalk.com and work a little more on this anim. The bits I wanted to tackle were the kick, the dive/attack after the kick, the throwing of white mech and the powerslam. I made the kick a bit punchier by adding a bit more recoil through grey mechs body. The dive/attack I replaced with a walk-to-run charge attack which was a pig to animate but using some mocap reference from the Incredible Hulk movie I found on youtube I seem to have got something quite nice. The throw I just made a touch simpler and will enhance further. The powerslam received a bit more weight and impact by adding in some hold at the start, and adjusting the arc and weight of the drop. Overall I'm quite chuffed with where this is heading now and I will work on more of it once I'm through the majority of this. Click on pic below to download qtime mov (approx 8mb)
Haven't been 100% this wkend and had alot of dizzyness and sickness - think I've caught some mild bug which has resulted in me going to sleep alot and then getting up v.dizzy. Quite strange. During the last week I thought it might be fun to try to take the mechs I've animated and put them into a live action environment. I was thinking of using some warehouse and there are actually one or two nearby that I know of but whether I can get in and film them is another matter. I decided to sit on the sofa today and during the hours I have been awake, have a quick play with this new tracking software I have. Basically I filmed my keyboard at home with the camera slowly moving it around the keyboard. Then I ran it through the software and put a mech into the shot. With a bit of colour matching and motionblur additions, I think its quite successfull actually and I think would look even cooler animated. This shot is quite slow moving so I reckon a violent punchup where the cameraman is almost avoiding the two mechs battling would be really effective. My next step from this clip below will be to get some bright blue paper and make some motion tracking crosses for the tracking software to latch onto otherwise it may have problems in a darkly lit warehouse.
