Iron Man Suitcase WIP - PAGE 1
So I've had this one boiling on my noggin for a fair while now. I've watched ironman 1 & 2 more times than i care to count and figured it'd be fun/difficult/challenging to try and tackle the ironman suitcase suiting-up sequence. I figured it'd be fun for ME to put the suit on in my garage after removing it from the back of my car. So i started on the model tonight and have got this far. I had a couple of schematics of the helmet so the work on this has come together fairly quickly but the body will be a tougher article i reckon as i cant find any schematics on that.. especially the mk6 suitcase model. However there's a fair few high res screen captures online so i should be able to use those coupled with other schematics to obtain the overall look and feel. My aim will be to do a nice bit of modelling (hopefully) and then composite it onto live action shots of myself.

Started blocking out the body. Its pretty touch as the Mark6 ironman suit is a much sleeker design and more complex in its armature. There are far more smaller components and the whole thing is quite alot more skintight compared to the Mark3 suit from the first film. I managed to obtain a basic body model of the Mark3 ironman suit though so I'm using that as a template and rough guide to build the Mark6 on. At this point i'm not too fussed on complexity - I just want the basic pieces in place in relation to one another and trying to get them to be fairly accurate in terms of position. Thankfully I've a fair amount of concept art for this suit to work from and some high res stills from the movie too. Once I've got these pieces mocked up and positioned I'll begin working on putting more detail into them.

Just a quick one... started working round the body to the spine... once these parts are in i can start working on the bits beneath the main panels...

Decided to get the arm blocked out tonight. Surprising actually what an addition it is. Even at this stage I can see its going to work out quite well once its all high res'd up. My plan is to blockout the model then proceed straight onto motion tracking of my own body... if I get that blocked out along with the model then it should just be a case of modelling more detail in and knowing that it will work with the motion. I've done a couple of images - one showing the front & back of the model with both arms on, and the other as a draft render to see how its looking at this stage with basic lighting, shadow, occlusion and hdr FG applied. Long way to go yet but this is promising methinks :)

Just a quick one - modelling up the hands.. not labouring on this just yet... using a hand shape from an existing model I have then altered it so the flight stabiliser/repulsor sits nicely in the palm. Will add detail later once I know its all working and in proportion...

not quite the right proportions yet but the components that make up the legs are there. Not easy to model at all!...

Well am gonna be a bit busy from today/tomorrow onwards but did a little bit of work over the last few nights, and thought i'd put this image up of where it stands. Still a long way to go really but its beginning to get there. I've been switching meshes to smoothMesh and using the crease tool to obtain the hard edges with soft contoured lines that this model needs so much and it seems to be working quite well...
